Side Dishes that Pack a Protein Punch

 

If you’re living the LEAN lifestyle, you know that getting in adequate protein every day and eating tons of veggies are a priority! When we enjoy those holiday BBQs, we expect to see animal protein, and sometimes veggies, on the grill! But you can find protein in the side dishes too! Here are a few plant based protein-packed sides you might consider for your next holiday BBQ or picnic! All are easy, delicious, and nutritious!

 

1) Black bean lentil salad with cumin and lime

This salad can be served at room temperature or chilled and has 15+ grams of protein per serving! Great Mexican flavors that go well with fish, shrimp, chicken or pork!

 

 

2) Edamame quinoa salad

I love quinoa and edamame, so this is a great combination! With over 20g of protein per serving, a great side dish with Asian flavors! You could play with the ratio of quinoa to edamame or even add in or substitute chickpeas. Super filling and delish!

 

 

3) Crazy quick white bean salad

I love the combination of the sun dried tomatoes and cannellini beans in this salad. Great mixture of textures and flavors and super quick, but sophisticated, and inexpensive to throw together! Great as a side with brisket or chicken!

 

 

4) Amazing chickpea spinach salad

The dressing on this salad is truly amazing! I love feta, so that’s an added bonus to this salad. 23g of protein in a single serving! Boom! You’re going to love it! 

 

 

5) Fully loaded black bean salad

Black beans, sweet corn in a tangy citrus dressing! So good!! I like to double the amount of peppers and tomatoes in this one, but you could also substitute asparagus, mushrooms, and zucchini. Super versatile and full of vitamins, fiber, and protein!
