Breaking Through the February Resolutions Slump

Did you make it past Quitter’s Day?

The day most people give up on their New Year’s Resolutions is the second Friday of January.

Those of us who’ve struggled with weight loss for years don’t laugh. We all get it. Sticking with those goals is hard work. Soon, we hit our breaking point.

You know how hard it was to make it through January. Now, in February, you start to wonder how realistic your resolutions were.

Let’s turn the ship around. Today, you’ll learn how to break through the February Resolutions Slump. I’ll teach you practical steps you can take right now.

Why You Want to Quit

The biggest reason people ditch their New Year’s resolutions are because they (1) set unrealistic goals, (2) lack a concrete plan, (3) don’t track their progress, (4) try to change too much at once, and (5) don’t see progress and lose motivation. Do any of these feel like your struggle?

3 Non-Negotiables To Break Through Your February Slump

  1. Get Real: Set Goals That Fit Your Life

When it comes to making lasting changes, setting goals that actually fit your real life is absolutely crucial. Too often, people dive into a health or weight loss journey with grand intentions—like working out every day or cutting out all processed foods—but these can set us up for disappointment when real life inevitably contradicts our goals.Instead of aiming for perfection, focus on progress and sustainability.

If, for example, you’re used to eating out multiple times a week, it’s not realistic to think you can completely cut fast food out of your routine right away. Instead, work on making smarter choices when you do go. Start by learning what to order from your favorite fast-food places that will fit your nutrition goals.

If you’re a working mom, it’s not realistic to go from barely having time for yourself to suddenly working out five days a week at the gym. If you know your schedule only allows for gym visits twice a week, plan for that. Then, fill in the gaps with home workouts or even walking.

Getting real means accepting where you are right now and creating a plan that fits your life—not the life you wish you had.

Setting attainable goals that reflect your routine—and your challenges—will help you stay consistent and avoid the burnout that often comes with overcommitting. Remember, sustainable change isn’t about perfection; it’s about finding a balance that works for you.

  2. Get Motivated: Find Your Drive and Track Your Wins

Staying motivated on your weight loss journey can be tough, especially when the initial excitement of New Year’s resolutions starts to fade. So how do you keep the momentum going? One powerful way is to reconnect with your why. Why do you want to lose weight? Be specific. Whether it’s having energy again to return to a hobby you love, being able to play freely with your grandkids, or feeling confident in your body, remind yourself of that reason every day.

Writing it down and placing it somewhere visible can help keep your focus sharp.

Next, make sure to track your progress—not just through the numbers on the scale. In fact, weight isn’t always the best measure of success! Take progress photos and measurements to see how your body is changing over time. You’ll be amazed at how much more progress you can see when you track these physical markers.

Finally, celebrate your non-scale victories! These are those big wins that don’t show up on the scale but are just as important. Maybe you’re sleeping better, or you don’t have as much back pain and headaches. These victories can be empowering and motivate you to keep going. Keeping a dedicated journal or app to track these small wins helps remind you that progress is happening, even when the scale doesn’t budge.

With these strategies in place, you’ll create a foundation of motivation that’s stronger than any number on a scale.

  3. Get Support: Why You Shouldn’t Go It Alone

Let’s be real: weight loss can feel overwhelming, and trying to go it alone often leads to frustration and burnout. Having a solid support system is absolutely essential. Whether it’s through a coach, a group program, or even a friend who’s on the same journey, support can make all the difference. With access to expert guidance, you’ll skip the confusion and stall-out. You get real answers to the questions you face every day. Should you eat this or that? How do you stay on track when life gets busy? What about vacation? Having a coach who knows the ins and outs of sustainable weight loss means you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

A solid support system should provide valuable resources—things like meal plans, workout schedules, and shopping lists that are designed to fit into your lifestyle. This makes it easier on you to stay on track, even when life gets hectic.

But one of the most powerful aspects of support is the community. Being part of a group that’s on the same journey helps us see that we’re not alone. Everyone in the group is working toward the same goal. Everyone is hitting the same road blocks. A support group is key to giving you the motivation, advice, and support you need to keep moving forward.

If you’re ready to move past the February slump, having that support system can be the solution to staying on track and making lasting changes.

“This is a Lifestyle. And I’m Living It Forever.”

Over the years, my LEAN members have seen the impact of being able to create healthy habits that stick. I read story after story like this:

  • After years of pushing her physical and emotional health aside for the needs of others, Lisa gave LEAN a try, learned how to make healthy habits part of her daily routine, and lost 14 pounds in 7 weeks. Now she’s focusing on “never giving up on myself.”
  • Erin lost weight and kept it off without skipping date night, birthday cake, or vacation cocktails. The tactics she learned in LEAN “became second nature and the weight came off without feeling like I was missing out.”
  • Whitney never dreamed that at ten months postpartum with her third baby, that she would feel so energized, fit, and healthy. After LEAN, she wanted to “scream from the rooftops to all the moms out there that you can have this much energy!”

Then, I got this note from Felicia:

LEAN totally changed my life. 33 pounds gone. I’ve been easily keeping it off for 2 years now, and I went from a tight 8 (probably needed the 10) to a 4-6. I love shopping and getting dressed instead of looking for ways to hide in my clothes.

It’s not all about the weight or the size for me though, it’s about my health too, which has also drastically changed. I am a new healthy version of me and it’s all because of LEAN and Amanda. This is not a diet, it’s a lifestyle. And I’m living it forever!

Let this year be the one that turns the tides. Let’s join together and see those goals come true. Join LEAN today!
